STARKVILLE, Miss. – (WCBI) It’s a move that could affect 5,000 students in the Golden Triangle.

Tuesday night, the community offered their input on a plan to consolidate Oktibbeha County and Starkville Schools.

Oktibbeha County Supervisors Marvel Howard, Joe Williams and Orlando Trainer hosted the public meeting at the courthouse annex.

Howard explained what a consolidation would mean to a packed house of concerned county members.

Many voiced frustrations about the proposed bill. While current boundaries will remain the same, the school board would consist of three members tapped by Starkville alderman, one chosen from Oktibbeha Supervisors, while the final member would be elected.

Many of those in attendance said that they do not believe that the county will be fairly represented. The proposed legislation is now being considered by the House of Representatives.
