STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — A new twist in the effort to bring an Oktibbeha County school bond issue to a vote. A group called Parents for Public Schools has now launched a counter-petition. The group is targeting citizens who signed the original petition calling for a vote on the district efforts to authorize up to $13.2 million in bonds.

That money would be used to help fund the upcoming consolidation of Oktibbeha and Starkville school districts. The new petition allows someone who signed the first petition asking for the vote to now say they don’t want a vote and don’t want their name counted in the number needed to force the ballot. Backers of this new effort say they hope to present the counter-petition to the Oktibbeha County school conservator by February second.
