Ole Miss Begins Practice With Optimism

OXFORD, Miss. (WCBI Sports) - The Ole Miss football team opened up practice Friday. There is optimism in Oxford, in stark contrast to a year ago. Though, head coach Hugh Freeze is quick not to set the bar too high.

“I do believe you have to temper your expectations as far as is it a reasonable expectation in year two,” Freeze said. “You can’t identify a specific expectation other than become more relevant in the SEC West and continue to compete for our university for 60 minutes.”

“We’re trying to take the program to another level,” senior quarterback Bo Wallace said. “We want to be in the top half of the SEC West. If you’re in that top three, you’re doing a good job. That’s our goal is to be up there.”

“You got to come out and prove something,” wide receiver Donte Moncrief said. “That’s what we want to keep on doing. Some people still look at us like can they do it again? So we just got to come out and show them what we can do.”

Head coach Hugh Freeze went 7-6 in his first year as the Rebels’ coach. He reached a bowl game and won the Egg Bowl. Those accomplishments, along with Bo Wallace’s return and a strong recruiting class, certainly raises the expectations heading into year two.
