CALHOUN COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — An 18-wheeler driver is airlifted to a Tupelo hospital after two big rigs collide in Calhoun County.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol say the crash happened about 2:20, on Highway 341 south of Vardaman.

Troopers say 32-year-old Ishmael Omisaye of Oakdale, Minn. pulled out from County Road 462.

That’s when a southbound empty 18-wheel log truck, driven by 49-year-old Kenneth Truss of Kosciusko, hit the other truck.

“The potato truck did not stop, pulled out in front of the log truck and he hit him. When I got up close, the man that was driving the potato truck was saying, “Help me, help me.” We helped him get out of the truck,” said rescuer and bystander Frederick Reese.

Omisaye was airlifted to North Mississippi Medical Center with head injuries.

Truss was not injured.

Omisaye’s 18-wheeler is owned by Kalifa Kadiro of Cordova, Tennesse.

The big rigs were not hauling a load when the accident occurred.

The accident remains under investigation.
