JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Calhoun County Sheriff Greg Pollan says a man pardoned by Gov. Haley Barbour in 2012 has been wounded in a shooting at a cookout south of Calhoun City.

Pollan says Wayne Thurman Harris of Slate Springs was taken to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo after being wounded in the leg Thursday night.

The sheriff says Chris McGonagill of Calhoun City died at Baptist Hospital in Oxford as a result of multiple gunshot wounds. Pollan says the shooting occurred at McGonagill’s home.

Harris was among dozens of people pardoned by Barbour just before he left the governor’s office. He had been serving a sentence for selling marijuana.

Pollan says investigators are working to determine what happened at the cookout and that no charges have been filed so far.
