Owens Named Interim Director of Miss. Bureau of Narcotics

Daily Journal/JACKSON (AP) – Sam Owens, a veteran of 36 years at the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, has been named interim director of the agency.

The announcement came in a news release Thursday from Public Safety Commissioner Albert Santa Cruz.

Owens has been deputy director of the agency. He joined MBN in January 1978. He also has served as an agent, district captain, regional major, director of training and special operations commander.

Owens takes over MBN after former director Marshall Fisher accepted a position with the federal DEA to head a regional drug interdiction task force based in south Mississippi. Fisher served as director of MBN from June 2005 until January of this year.
