Oxford Starts New Bus Safety Reporting System

OXFORD, Miss. — Today Oxford School District officials unveiled a new way for residents to take a more
active role in expressing concerns regarding school bus transportation. A new anonymous online form, the
School Bus Safety Incident Report, allows community members and parents to now report any concerns they
have related to school bus safety in the school district.

Stemming from community reaction, Oxford School District Superintendent Brian Harvey said the new
measure was necessary.

“I have received several complaints from citizens, parents and community leaders,” said Harvey. “After viewing
a couple of incidents myself, I felt it prudent to take action. Our community members are our ‘eyes and ears’
and play an important part of total safety awareness for students who travel to and from school by bus.” !

Also, the public can fill out the School Bus Safety Incident Report online at www.oxfordsd.org/transportation.
Oxford School District transportation department officials will review all anonymous reports submitted in a
timely manner.

Possible school bus transportation issues can include aggressive driving, unsafe passing, excessive speed or
use of a cell phone while driving a school bus.

“I believe this will make the community, as well as our bus drivers, aware of the dangers that can occur. We
already have enough problems trying to prohibit drivers from passing a school bus that is unloading
children,” said Harvey. “All community drivers need to be aware of their surroundings at all times.”
