Oxford’s Police Pay Change Gets The Green Light
OXFORD– The Oxford Police Department will receive a pay raise for the 2014-2015 budget.
Last Tuesday night, the Board of Aldermen approved an increase in pay for Oxford’s Police by $80,000.
Assertions of other departments offering better salaries led to the pay change. Earlier this fall, it was brought to the attention of the Mayor and Aldermen that Oxford’s pay grade was significantly lower than the pay grade of Tupelo and Southaven. The pay gap created a continual loss of officers and became a costly factor in recruitment and training.
Mayor Pat Patterson warned police not to assume that next year’s financial projections will implement an automatic raise.
