LEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Supporters of Lee County schools can show their pride in schools when they drive.

Lee County School District has released a new car tag. Pre-orders are being taken, and once the orders reach 300, the license plates will be made and shipped to motorists.

Each tag is $31 along with the normal annual car tag fee.

Officials say the specialty tag is one more way to show pride in the school district, and also help the district financially.

“We are always asked to do more with less money, and we felt like in doing this that it would be a good opportunity to kill two birds with one stone,” Lee County School District Superintendent Jimmy Weeks said. “The first bird being just support for Lee County School District, because we have a lot of great things going on in our district. But also in raising the extra money, coming up with additional funds we can use in the classroom to provide better instruction for students.”

Applications for the specialty tag can be picked up at the Lee County School District Central Office in Tupelo.

The tags should be available in December or January.
