UNDATED, Miss. (WCBI)-Parents have until August 30th to register for a finger-scanning system to sign children in and out of federally subsidized child care. The deadline was announced today by the Department of Human Services. Parents and other caregivers will have to visit county DHS offices to scan their fingers into the system, or lose their subsidy. The machines will be required starting October 1st for 18,000 children whose care is subsidized by federal grants. Deployment was delayed by protests and a lawsuit by child care operators who oppose the scanners’ use.A phone-in attendance system has been required since June 1st for the roughly 300 home-based centers that care for children covered by federal vouchers.
