MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — The fate of former MSU professor Davod Parvin will be in the hands of a jury Monday.

Parvin’s attorney Jim Waide rested their defense this afternoon after a day of witnesses. Monroe County Judge Paul Funderburk told jurors to return Monday to hear closing arguments.

Parvin is charged with shooting his wife Joyce in their Aberdeen home almost seven years ago. He claims he shot her accidentally while running through the house to shoot a beaver in their yard.

He was convicted once of murder and sentenced to life in prison but that verdict was overturned and a new trial ordered.

In today’s testimony, Waide focused on the accidental shooting claim. He brought in an expert who testified to the possibility and a former Lee County officer who told of his own accidental discharge of a firearm.

Witnesses also said Parvin has disowned any claim to his wife’s estate.
