By the time all the votes were counted Tuesday night, Bobby Patrick likely spent almost twice as much as Chuck Younger in a losing effort in the District 17 state Senate runoff in Lowndes County.

And in the District 3 Circuit Court judge’s runoff covering seven counties, winner Kelly Luther spent more than 12 times his opponent in winning the seat.

Campaign finance reports filed last week show Patrick had received more than $20,000 in contributions and spent more than $18,000. Meanwhile, Younger received more than $10,000 in donations and spent almost that amount.

Younger won the runoff by about 800 votes.

The numbers don’t include expenses from the last week.

In the judge’s race, Luther had taken in more than $77,000, including a $60,000 loan to himself. He spent more than $62,000. Byers had received about $10,500 but spent less than half that.

Luther won the seat by 8,000 votes.
