Pipe Causes Bomb Scare in Pontotoc

PONTOTOC COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — A piece of PVC pipe wrapped in tape causes a brief scare in Pontotoc County.

Sheriff’s deputies called in the Tupelo Police bomb squad Monday night after someone reported the suspicious looking device near a trash pile along a county road.

The bomb squad quickly determined the device wasn’t a bomb and was harmless.

“It wasn’t anything to it, nothing at all, just harmless,” Sheriff Leo Mask said.

Mask says the pipe likely caused a stir because of a rash of explosions at sand pits in the area where thrill seekers load ammonia nitrate into tubes and shoot it off for fun.
