Plants Should Fair Well Despite Snow/Ice

COLUMBUS, Miss.(WCBI)–Last week’s weather pattern dumped enough snow in North Mississippi for some people to make a snowman and even go sledding.

Accumulation of snow on tops of pine and other evergreen have resulted in broken limbs. But plant lovers are wondering if all that snow could effect plants that have already begun to bloom just before spring. The experts say they should be fine.

“I’ll tell you one thing about snow it has a little insulating factor. You know, like compared to solid ice. Snow, it was okay, it didn’t stay around long. So our daffodils are mainly like only flowers I saw coming up, but they’ll be okay,” said Reid Nevins/Extension.

With a possible second wave of cold temperatures in the forecast for the middle of the week, eyes will again be focused on those plants ready for spring.
