COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A Columbus man charged in a 2010 shooting that claimed the life of a Southern Miss student will have to wait for his day in court.
The murder trial for 22-year old Ranzino Ahmad Harris has been continued until March 4th, 2013.
Harris was expected to plead guilty to lesser charges, that included manslaughter and aggravated assault Monday. He would have been sentenced to 40 years. The deal fell through, and a jury will hear his case in the spring.
Harris is charged with murder and aggravated assault in the shooting that happened back on May 17th of 2010.
22-year Justin Murray was staying with relatives on Schoolhouse Road in the city’s Northside when an alleged dispute turned to gunfire.
Harris was reportedly fighting with a woman when Murray intervened. He was fatally wounded and Iraq veteran Michael Brewer was also shot.
Brewer has since made a full recover.
