LAFAYETTE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A diligent daughter and a watchful neighbor keep an elderly Lafayette County woman from being fleeced by a dishonest plumber.

Lafayette County Chief Investigator Alan Wilburn says 44 year old Leodis ” Bill’ Adams faces one count of fraud against a vulnerable adult for charging the woman nearly $8,000 for a plumbing job that should have cost a few hundred.

The scam was halted when the victims daughter immediately called officers after discovering her mother had written a check for the bogus billing. A neighbor provided investigators with information that Adams was on site for just a few hours–not long enough to warrant the massive bill.

Wilburn adds because the daughter acted so quickly , the bank was able to stop the check before the money was actually taken out of the victims account. Adams is free on a $15,000 bond. He could get ten years in prison if convicted.
