Political Shake-Up in North Mississippi

NORTHEAST MISS. – (WCBI) Political shake-up is the name of the game in North Mississippi.

Fulton elects its first female mayor, Oxford’s mayor gets another shot, while Golden Triangle leaders remained the same. Running as a democrat, Weatherford unseated Mayor Paul Walker by a landslide in the primaries, and did the same to two other candidates last night.

A similar result in Booneville. Derrick Blythe took a big victory over incumbent Mayor Joe Eaton in the primaries, and swept last night’s general election with 60 percent of the vote.

Saltillo has new a leader at the helm, as well. Rex Smith will spend the next four years as mayor. Verona residents voted out Mayor Bobby Williams for Robert Trice, while Gary Herring is taking the reigns in Guntown.

Iuka’s long term mayor Jackie Bryant was unseated last night by political newcomer and retired banker, John Castleberry.

Smithville Mayor Gregg Kennedy and Ripley Mayor Chris Marsalis will both have another term in office. Calhoun City residents are pleased with their leader, Mayor J.R Denton. He also will served the next four years.
