PONTOTOC, Miss. (WCBI) — City leaders hope it doesn’t happen but whether liquor is sold in Pontotoc could literally come down to a coin toss.

Election officials have counted all but five affidavit ballots from Tuesday’s referendum and the sale of beer was approved. But the vote on liquor remains tied at 829 for each side.

The five remaining affidavit ballots are voters who have to bring in an I-D. Four have done so but city leaders were waiting on the fifth late today. He has until 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The five votes can’t be counted until all are in or the deadline passes. If the vote ends up tied, state officials say they think it comes down to a coin toss or some other form of chance.
