PONTOTOC, MISS. (WCBI) – The winter blast impacted towns throughout the region. Some towns received snow and there were also patches of ice on some roads.

The snow began falling early Tuesday and by sunrise crews were out in full force salting the roads.

“The freezing temperature, between 28 and 30 degrees, is a perfect time to have what they call black ice. You don’t see it. So ,if you’re out its good to drive as slow as you can,” said Pontotoc Mayor Jeff Stafford.

The light snow didn’t keep people off the main roads. At Sydnei’s Kitchen, business was heavier than expected on this snow day.

“I was expecting it to be a little slow. I wasn’t expecting anybody to hardly be in here but they were. We had full tables,” said Sydnei’s Kitchen Employee Kayla Moore.

5th grader Anna Claire Warren would have been at school on a regular morning but she spent part of her day off having breakfast with her dad.

“I like it actually because we are out of school and you get to have as much fun as you want,” Warren said.

However, not everyone was as excited as Anna Claire.

“I don’t like it. I got cows I had to get out and feed so I had to get out in the weather so I dont think to much of it,” said Riley Seale, a longtime Sydnei’s customer.

Next door to Sydeni’s Kitchen, Pro-Cision-Collision employees were already busy and are expecting an even heavier work load.

“We’ve been behind because of deer claims. With the ice and snow that’s come in, its definitely going to be a whole lot worse. we’ll have I guess some of your fender-benders, bumper covers and fenders from running off the road, maybe sliding into a ditch,” said Wesley Bray, owner of Pro-Cision-Collision.

Although by midday most of the snow had melted, roads could still be hazardous to drivers. Experts are urging everyone to stay alert as the second round of possibly treacherous winter weather moves through.
