PONTOTOC, Miss. (WCBI) – Pontotoc residents may soon see a change in their water meter. An effort is underway to replace old meters with updated, electronic models. The new meters will allow meter readers to gather information as they drive past.

“[This} cuts down on time, you know. Those meters, they’ll build a memory and if anything happens where that house is using more water than it normally does it red flags it, and then someone can check it and see what the problem is if somebody had a leak they don’t know about, ” said Superintendent Tom Roberts.

The new water meters have a battery that lasts up to 20 years. Since February, half of the meters have been replaced and the rest should be completed during the next few months.
