Downed Tennessee Valley Authority Pole Cuts Power to 4-County Members

A downed pole on a Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) transmission line that supplies power to two 4-County substations in Oktibbeha County led to large outages Tuesday morning. The incident happened around 5:00 a.m. in the southeastern part of the county. When the pole went down, it cut power to 4-County’s Lakeside and Oktoc substations and left more than 6,000 members without electricity. Power was restored to the Lakeside substation about an hour after the initial outage, which left about 3000 members without electricity in the southern part of Oktibbeha, along South Montgomery Street south towards the Oktoc community. Various efforts to feed electricity from alternate sources including the Starkville Electric Department had power back to all but about 1000 members by noon and less than 500 by around 1 p.m.

The pole was replaced and power was restored to all members at about 3:30 p.m.

4-County Manager of Consumer Service Cliff Wall says he appreciates member’s patience while the problem was fixed. “Since this was a TVA pole and line, we were limited in what we could do. As soon as the outage occurred, we worked with TVA to identify the problem and to find alternate ways to supply power to as many members as possible. TVA responded quickly and worked hard to minimize the inconvenience to 4-County’s members,” said Wall.  “We also appreciate Starkville Electric Department’s willingness to provide us with power to help energize some of our members earlier than they would have been”, Wall added.
