COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- Some people with Pre-existing conditions won’t be able to sign up for health coverage under a federally-run plan.

On Saturday, the pre-existing condition insurance plan suspended new enrollments into its program until further notice.

PCIP was created as a transitional program ahead of the 2014 implementation of the affordable care act.

The Obama administration stressed that coverage for about 100,000 people who are now enrolled in high risk pools will not be affected by this change.

We spoke to one insurance agent about the future of pre-existing conditions.

If you’ve got a pre-existing condition, the future is bright as of January 1, 2014 there will not be any pre-existing conditions. AS far as the financial burden to insurance carriers, it’s certainly going to be a detrimental effect there. Insurance carries will either have to raise their premiums or be losing money,” says James Galloway.

More than 100,000 people nationwide enrolled in the program.
