Video: Preparations Behind a Thanksgiving Meal

AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) – On Thanksgiving, most of us will enjoy a heaping helping of food. That’s the fun part.

Reservations and pick up orders are piling up. Hundreds are requesting the free Thanksgiving meal offered by First Baptist Church in Amory. Volunteers have been working ’round the clock to make a feast fit for a community.

“They probably started preparing last week just getting things ready and they come up and get everything mixed up and ready and start cooking. So pretty much everything will be ready to go early in the morning,” says Pastor Allen Simpson.

Members of First Baptist Church in Amory are preparing for the community wide Thanksgiving meal. Volunteers we spoke to said they are looking forward to serving as well as the fellowship that comes with it.

“A lot of times the volunteers they get a better blessing out of it than the person that’s actually being served. It’s a blessing to them to be able to share and love other folks,” says Clarence Lee.

The church has been hosting this event for 12 years. It’s a great way to give a warm meal to people who need it, *and* practice what you preach.

“I think it’s just part of what we are suppose to do as Christians is to be there for the community. I think its very important that one way of ministering to people,” says Clara Lee.

Pastor Simpson says they feed an average of 400 people every Thanksgiving, and that number is growing.

“So the need continues to be there and I don’t think that’s going to stop and we just again we have people that are very generous and this is the way for them to give back to the community and they love doing it and seeing different people come in,” says Pastor Simpson.

A perfect Thanksgiving meal feeds the body *and* the spirit.

“That’s what I enjoy doing I enjoy ministry. I want them to experience the love of Christ when people are ministering to them and not just having a hot meal, but the people being here and knowing that people are here for them,” says Clara Lee.

Meals will be offered from 11am-1pm Thanksgiving Day. If you haven’t already signed up, you can stop by First Baptist Church in Amory Thanksgiving Day. No one will be turned away.
