TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Many high school students across North Mississippi are hoping to attend a service academy.

That’s why they came out to Tupelo, Saturday, for Congressman Alan Nunnelee’s Academy Day.

Representatives from the academies and schools offering ROTC programs were on hand to help prospective cadets.

Some reps tell WCBI attending one of these schools is about a higher calling.

“And we’re all here for the same reason,” said Matt Robbins, U.S. Air Force Academy. “The military provides protection for this country, and a lot times it calls for the ultimate sacrifice for each person, and you have to get that in your mind that that might be you one day.”

Robbins says he tells prospective cadets, attending an academy teaches you leadership and management skills, making you valuable in the job market after you leave the military.
