PSC Delays Anti-Nuclear Dumping Resolution

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Two members of the Public Service Commission say they want more time to study a resolution urging a stop to payments into a federal nuclear waste fund and a rejection of any plans to store or reprocess nuclear waste in Mississippi.

Commissioner Brandon Presley sought immediate action Tuesday, but Commissioners Lynn Posey and Steve Renfroe said they wanted more time and refused to act.

Presley’s resolution aims partly to stop payments to a federal nuclear waste fund meant to build a repository in Nevada. It suggests Mississippi sue to recoup $80 million that ratepayers have paid toward the plan.

But it also seeks to shoot down suggestions raised last year by the Mississippi Energy Institute and some others that Mississippi consider a plan to store and reprocess spent nuclear fuel.
