PSC Okays Yokohama Power Station

PRESS RELEASE

WEST POINT, Miss. (March 25, 2014) – At a hearing in Clay County on Monday, Northern District Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley approved construction of a 4-County Electric Power Association facility designed to provide power to support the area’s growing economy. The electric facility, known as the Triathlon Substation, will ensure that 4-County has sufficient infrastructure to serve the new Yokohama Tire Corporation tire manufacturing plant to be located in West Point.

“This facility is crucial to the economic growth that will come to the Golden Triangle with the Yokohama Tire plant. My goal is always to ensure that Mississippi has the best infrastructure to attract jobs and grow our economy whenever the ultimate beneficiary is the public and utility customers,” Presley said.

Presley conditioned his approval on the filing of a “Keep Whole Agreement” between 4-County and Yokohama which will ensure that should any unforeseen circumstance cause the tire plant to not be built, 4-County’s ratepayers will not be held responsible for the cost of the Triathlon Substation.

The substation’s cost will be $2.3 Million, with construction to begin sometime in mid to late March of this year. It will be completed and operational by July 1, 2014.
