Recovery Day Celebration in Starkville

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Folks rallied together in Starkville on Saturday to raise money to help people who can’t afford addiction treatment.

Through efforts from the Golden Triangle Recovery Center and University Baptist Church, the Recovery Day celebration included live music, pictures with Mississippi State mascot Bully, games and the ‘Dunk-a-Cop’ booth.

Proceeds from the event went directly towards the recovery fund, which benefits individuals who do not have the financial means to start or continue treatment. 60% of addicted people want treatment, but cannot afford it.

“So many people who need recovery can’t afford it,” said Scott Lipsey, Board President of the Recovery Fund. “Studies show that people who pay for their own treatment have better success. The $20,000 that we’re trying to raise will fund people, which will save the tax-payers money.”

Organizers plan to make Recovery Day an annual event occurring each year, on the day of the first away Mississippi State football game.
