WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) — And internal dispute causes a month delay and now West Point Selectmen are racing the clock to redraw city ward lines in time for next year’s city elections.

After three months of work, selectmen ended their contract last month with Golden Triangle Planning and Development District to redraw district lines. Board members said they wanted to go with a Jackson group that promised more community input.

Mayor Scott Ross vetoed that decision.

Tonight, selectmen failed to get a motion to override the veto. Instead, they set a Sept. 25 public hearing on the issue. They will meet with GTPDD’s Toby Stanford Thursday night to begin hammering out proposals.

New districts must get federal approval before qualifying starts January 2nd for city elections. If not, the city could be forced to have two elections next year.
