Video: Reform, Al. Now Online, Thanks to Students

[bitsontherun lnbFmPtB]PICKENS COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – They never had one before, but thanks to some students at Pickens County High School the city of Reform can now say they have a website.

The mayor’s visit to Pickens County High School turned into an exciting school project. Mayor Bennie Harton got the idea after seeing students blogging and building websites.

“I observed that these students are very intelligent and very adapt on the computer itself and so I realized immediately that they were qualified to do such a task,” said Mayor Bennie E. Harton.

From there, CityofReform.com was born. Teaming up with the mayor to develop the official website, teacher Daniel Brays gave his students a crash course on different aspects of html and Word Press.

“They got to see that their work is more than just school work it’s real world application. How often do students get to work 1 on 1 with a member of city hall, with the mayor, with the police chief you know,” said teacher Daniel Brays.

After of month of research and hard work, students in Bray’s multimedia class have produced a city website that now has been up and running a little over a week.

“When I heard about it I thought it was going to be a pretty nice thing to do, I mean you don’t get this opportunity a lot so. I guess just coming to Mr. Brays class you have to be ready for anything,” said student Drake Dilley.

“Our website was professional as can be and it was really an enjoyment for us to make something for our city and our community,” added student team leader Rhyan Hall.

The website includes a tour of the city, city hall information, education resources, the mayor’s message, and even police department contact information. It’s all in hopes the exposure will attract more new comers.

“We want to let them know that we are steadily trying to improve our city and make life better for our citizens here in Reform,” said Mayor Harton.

When the students are finished with the last updates the website will be officially handed over to the city.
