TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – On this Monday morning, these Regions Bank employees have traded in their business suits, for jeans and t shirts. Instead of hovering over computers crunching numbers, they are doing yard work.

It’s part of an initiative called “What a Difference a Day Makes” The service project is a joint effort between Regions Bank and the Alabama Mississippi Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

This crew is working at the home of Allison Holloway. She moved into her home on Garfield Street late last year, and although it was wheelchair friendly, there were a few things that needed to be done.

“They’ve put handles, like I said on the interior doors, so that I can close them, otherwise I can’t get to the handle to pull the door closed, they raised the bar in my shower,” Holloway said.

They also painted part of her kitchen cabinets, and tackled a lot of work outside.

For bank employees, the Service Day not only allows them to enjoy the beautiful fall weather, but it also helps them give back to the community .

“One of our missions as a company is to make life better, you know helping out people in our community is something we can do to achieve that,” said Regions Bank employee David Cayson.

Organizers point out that volunteers don’t need any special skills, just a willingness to help out.

“We have a lot of people who could use this kind of help, I call it honey do projects, it’s not major construction, yard work, minor repairs, painting, things that maybe someone can’t do for themselves , but that regular folks without a lot of special skills can make a big difference,” said Jen Bell, of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Holloway was able to spend some time visiting with the volunteers, and says she is grateful for their efforts.

“It’s just awesome to know that they have taken off work to come to things for me, it’s just an incredible feeling,” she said.
