Video: West Point Major Speaks out on Race Relations

[syndicaster id=’5301186′][syndicaster id=’5301246′]WEST POINT, Miss. (Press Release) — One of the alleged perpetrators of the assault on a local man has been arraigned in the West Point Municipal Court.

22-year-old Courtez McMillian of 30469 Old Hwy 41 Okolona, Ms. was charged yesterday in the Huddle House assault that left one person in serious condition.

In his initial appearance, McMillian was brought before the court and his bond was set at $250,000. He has been given the opportunity to secure legal counsel. Otherwise the court will appoint a lawyer to represent him in future proceedings.

Evidence will be presented to the Grand Jury when it convenes in October, upon which they have the discretion to add the hate crime enhancement.

McMillian is being held in the Clay County Detention Center.

Other arrests are still pending in this case.

The West Point Police Department is being assisted in the investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI). The District Attorney’s Office has already been briefed on the case.

“We called in the FBI and they have been fully briefed,” West Point Police Chief Tim Brinkley said. “Their expertise and resources will prove to be vital in this continuing investigation.”
