Les Koenning is expected to become the new wide receivers coach at Texas according to multiple sources.

Hookemreport.com first reported the story late Tuesday night. Mississippi State has yet to confirm the information.

Koenning played at Texas and began his coaching career in Austin as a graduate assistant in 1981.

Under Koenning’s guidance MSU’s offense set numerous school records, culminating in 13 this season. He also worked with the quarterbacks developing both Tyler Russell and Dak Prescott. Russell leaves the program with a handful of single season passing records. Many analysts are calling Prescott a sleeper for next year’s Heisman.

Koenning hasn’t strictly coached wide receivers since the 1996 season with Texas A&M. It concluded a decade-long run working with wideouts, which began in Starkville in 1986.

Since taking a job with Duke in 1998, Koenning has worked exclusively as an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Texas named Charlie Strong its head coach 10 days ago. Koenning has ties with the former Louisville coach throught MSU coach Dan Mullen. Strong spent time with Mullen at Florida form 2005-08.
