Reward Offered in Grenada Dog Shooting

GRENADA, Miss. (Press Release) — In Defense of Animals, an international animal protection organization represented by Hope Animal Sanctuary (HAS) of Grenada, has joined Grenada resident Benji Hayward in offering a reward of $800 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who shot and killed his Great Pyrenees dog. Named “Killer” to play on the fact that he was a gentle giant, the dog was shot and killed close to his home on Moose Lodge Road in Grenada. The slaying took place between March 10 when he was missed and March 16 when his body was discovered.

Killer is terribly missed by Hayward’s precious five year old daughter and Lady, his companion dog. Neighbors validate that Killer was a gentle and welcomed animal.

“Reports of other animals senselessly shot in the community indicates there may be a resident or visitor to the community with a dislike of animals and likely a lust for killing,” HAS Director Doll Stanley said.

The reward effort to gain justice for the slaying of the gentle dog was tactically delayed to give time for the alleged shooter to become comfortable with their anonymity and either brag about the killing, or share it with someone the killer might think to be sympathetic.

Anyone with information relating to the alleged killing of Killer, or other companion animals in the community, may contact IDA-HAS at (662) 809-4483 or email HAS’s director at doll@idausa.org.
