Robinson Wins West Point Mayoral Primary

WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) –  West Point voted for a new mayor Tuesday( 5-7)  night, and the turn out couldn’t have been any more impressive.

Tuesday was a tough day to be an incumbent on the Board of Selectmen.

If Tuesday night’s numbers hold up, we’ll be headed for runoffs in Wards 3 and 5.

In the Mayoral election, longtime Chancery Court clerk Robbie Robinson easily defeated community activist Dorothy Cox to win the democratic primary.

Robinson will run unopposed in the June general election.

Current Mayor Scott Ross did not seek re-election.

Mayor-elect Robinson says, ” Well right now I don’t have any personal agenda other than we’ve had a great announcement, as you know, of and the Yokohama Tire Company coming to Clay county and West Point, and I plan on working with them in a positive manner to see that we’re good friends and good partners. I’m a native of West Point and Clay County. I grew up here, and just to have my friends love me and support me. I owe a lot and I promise you I’m going to give 100 percent to the city of West Point.”

Run off elections are set for Tuesday, May 21.
