LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Columbus businessman Will Sanders is the new Lowndes County Port Authority director

The 46-year-old former vice president with Sanders Oil and Midstates Petroleum was a unanimous choice of the five-member Port Authority board. He was chosen from 16 people who applied to replace long-time director John Hardy who retired this summer.

The board used Key Staffing Service in Columbus to oversee the job search and narrow the field first to five finalists and then to a smaller group before Sanders was chosen.

The director oversees the operation of Lowndes County’s East and West Bank ports and works with shippers, potential industries and local economic development groups to bring new business to the port facilities and properties.

Port board members said Sanders’ experience with state and federal transportation and regulatory agencies along with his sales and management background were the keys to his hiring.
