COLUMBUS, Miss. (AP) — The Columbus School Board will meet Thursday to go over a list of applicants for superintendent of education.

A local newspaper reports board members will meet with its search firm Ray and Associates.

Board President Angela Verdell says the plan is to have a new superintendent in place by July 1.

The application deadline was May 30. The job advertisement listed the salary to be in the $175,000 range

Search firm project associate Al Johnson declined to say how many applicants there were.

The school district’s interim superintendent, Edna McGill, has said she intended to apply for the position.

McGill, who retired as assistant superintendent, has served as head of the district since June 2013 after superintendent Martha Liddell was fired.
