Section of Hwy 25 to be Named After Zacharias

STARKVILLE, Miss. (Press Release) — The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) is honored to announce that the Mississippi Legislature passed a bill that will designate a section of Mississippi Highway 25 as the “Dr. Donald W. Zacharias Memorial Highway.”

House Bill 615 designates and names a stretch of Mississippi Highway 25 in Oktibbeha County (beginning at its intersection with Old Highway 25 and extending south to its intersection with the Winston County line) as the “Dr. Donald W. Zacharias Memorial Highway.” MDOT will erect and maintain appropriate signs along and approaching this segment of highway.

“MDOT is honored to dedicate this section of highway as the Dr. Donald W. Zacharias Memorial Highway,” said Commissioner Mike Tagert. “Dr. Zacharias was a visionary for higher education in Mississippi, and his legacy will live for many years.”

Zacharias served as president of Mississippi State University (MSU) from 1985-1997. During his tenure at MSU, enrollment, private giving, external research funding and athletics all surged to heights previously unmatched at the university.

Signs marking the designated stretch of highway will be placed this week.
