Severe Tornado Damage Hits Tupelo Buildings

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — An afternoon of severe storms has taken its toll on several Tupelo buildings.

According to early reports, Tupelo’s Outback Steakhouse as well as Vanelli’s Greek and Italian restaurant were destroyed after a tornado passed through this afternoon.

The Barnes and Crossing Mall was also reportedly been hit by the storm system, but downed signs were the only extent of damage done.

Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley tweeted during the storms Atmos Energy reported five natural gas lines were “blowing.” Several hours later Atmos Energy said there had been 52 reports of natural gas leaks.

The Daily Journal reported the following buildings had been destroyed:

  • Sleep-In hotel;
  • Hammer’s Buffalo Wings;
  • An Express Lube; and
  • Steak Escape.
