LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Two Lowndes County men have been arrested in unrelated sex-related cases.

In one, a Columbus man is accused of sexually assaulting a woman and holding her in his home for almost three days.

Lowndes County investigators say 30-year-old Donta Shirley is charged with sexual battery and kidnapping in connection with the incidents that occurred between February 23rd and February 26th.

The woman told sheriff’s detectives she was able to escape and a friend took her to Baptist Golden triangle where she reported the assault.

No bond has been set.

In the other case, a man hailed as a hero last year is arrested on child fondling charges.

Columbus police say 50-year-old Napoleon Stevenson is charged with fondling a child and is free on $7,500 bond. The child’s mother reported the allegations last week and Stevenson was arrested after a three-day investigation. The alleged incidents happened two to three weeks earlier.

Stevenson works at Mississippi University for Women, but police say the charges don’t involve the university in any way. He was hailed as a hero last year after he helped run down a suspect who was stealing from a university worker.
