Sight Word Super Bowl

OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Sight words are an important building block when learning to read.

Students at West Oktibbeha Elementary School put their skills to the test in the Sight Word Super Bowl, Friday (2-1).

Former Green Bay Packer Donald Lee was on hand to provide extra motivation.

Winning classes got an autographed football.

Winning students got an MVP t-shirt.

Literary coach Melanie Cade says,  ” The idea of the Super Bowl was just a motivation strategy. The children are seeing the commercials, and they are hearing things about the Super Bowl, so we thought we would bring it to their level and let them have the connection to the Super Bowl and connect with sight words. ”

The goal is foster a lifelong love of reading.
