Smith Draws Opponent For House District 39 Race

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Longtime Lowndes County state Representative Jeff Smith will have an opponent in the general election.

James E. “Sam” Samuel has qualified as a Democrat to run against Smith in the House District 39 race.

The minister and activist has been unsuccessful in previous campaigns for local office.

Smith was elected in 1991 as a Democrat but later switched parties.

The Republican is now Chairman of the powerful House Ways and Means committee.

The general election is November 3rd.
