Smither Is Out As Northeast Head Coach

Booneville, Miss. (Northeast Athletics) – Ricky Smither, who recently completed his eighth overall season at Northeast Mississippi Community College, has been relieved of his duties as the Tigers’ head football coach effective immediately.

“We believe this decision is in the best interest of our student-athletes, our football program and the college as a whole,” said Northeast president Dr. Johnny L. Allen. “We wish coach Smither and his family the very best as they move forward.”

Smither joined the Tigers in February 2007 as an assistant with a primary focus on the offensive line. He agreed to become Northeast’s 13th headman just over one year later on July 3, 2008.

Northeast recently completed the 2014 campaign with a 2-7 record. The Tigers notched triumphs against Northwest Mississippi Community College and Coahoma to close the season in a tie for fifth place in the MACJC North Division at 2-4.

Northeast will begin its search for a new headman promptly. All current assistant coaches remain under contract and will continue performing their duties until a new leader for the Tigers is hired.
