SMITHVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) -For the 11th Anniversary of 9/11, members of the Smithville community joined at Brasfield Park Sunday for a honor and remembrance ceremony.

The ceremony opened up with a poem and dozens of folks crossing their hands over their chest to recite the pledge of allegiance.

The community remembered those who died in the mist of the September 11th attacks and the fallen from the tornados of 2011.

Smithville resident Mary Carter says, “This is in honor and remembrance of 911 and every year somewhere in Monroe County we present a flag pole and a flag in honor and remembrance of all those who lost their lives.”

Organizers say this will be a yearly remembrance ceremony.
