Smithville Still Dealing with Insurance Companies

SMITHVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – When dealing with the after affects of a tornado, communities can feel overwhelmed especially while dealing with insurance companies…

The town of Smithville has been rebuilding homes and businesses after the April 27, 2011 tornado came through and nearly leveled the community. Insurance, state, and federal dollars have been helping the community get back on it’s feet for the past two years.

Mayor Gregg Kennedy says the town has been able to rebuild homes and businesses, but they are still having issues with some insurance companies.

“Not as much on the home owners. It looks like all the home owners are pretty good shape and finalized and there are a couple of businesses that still have some small insurance issues, but as far as the municipalities concern two years today and we are still battling. We are going to continue to battle to make sure that we get in return what we’ve been paying for for so many years,” says Mayor Gregg Kennedy.

Mayor Kennedy says it also comes down to handling documents that were destroyed by the storm.
