Snow Possible Tonight & Thursday Morning

WINTER STORM WATCH

Snow in the South.  It’s a rare occasion but when it happens it’s a big deal.  And it may happen later tonight!

NEW_RPM_SNOW_POTENTIAL

The Wednesday evening RPM computer model is more bullish with the snow potential in our area now.

The latst model data suggest that anywhere from a coating to 4″ of snow  may fall late tonight and into Thursday morning.  It looks like the window of opportunity here will be open from about 3 a.m. and last until noon or so. Grassy areas and elevated surfaces will be the favored locations for snowfall accumulations. Widespread travel issues are not expected due to the warm & wet roadways but slush could develop on bridges if snowfall rates are high enough.

The system will move east into Alabama by early afternoon and that will end the threat of precipitation in our area.  Skies should gradually clear from west to east and our highs may actually climb back into the mid 40s if we can get the storm out of here fast enough.

We would love to know about any snow in your area if it does fall tonight.  You can email pictures or reports to weather@wcbi.com or you can post them to our Facebook and Twitter pages.
