JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) — The push to use state funds to pay for private education of special needs students is still alive.

The House Education Committee approved the measure letting the state pay $6,500 a year to private schools specializing in special needs education.

Backers of the measure say the fact that only 23 percent of Mississippi’s special needs students ever graduate was a primary reason for the bill.
