Special Needs Education Bill Passes Senate Committee

JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) — Some Mississippi parents could have more schools for their kids to choose from if enough state legislators have their way.

A bill increasing education options for students with disabilities passed the senate education committee, Tuesday.

Senate Bill 2695 would let parents use state money as a scholarship, so their child can attend a school that best fits their needs.

State officials say only 22.5 percent of special needs kids graduate from high school.

The bill is sponsored by Sen. Nancy Collins, R-Tupelo.

It heads to the senate next for a vote.
