AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) – A 4-7 season at Amory is not a season to typically celebrate.

Yet what the Panthers went through in 2013, it’s cause for optimism with second year head coach Ben Ashley.

“It’s strange to say a 4-7 season turned our team, but we won two games at the end of the year that gave us a very good chance to make the playoffs,” coach Ashley said. “No one thought we would make the playoffs outside of our kids in the locker room. We got very close but last year giving ourselves a chance created a bit of momentum for us going into the season.”

Amory brings back a tremendous amount of experience on both sides of the ball but it’s the big uglies that head coach Ben Ashley is looking to as a strength.

“I’ll be disappointed if we’re not very good on the line of scrimmage,” coach Ashley said. “We have eight offensive and defensive linemen that we feel like can play. We’re two deep at those positions with the offensive line returning all five starters.”

Expectations are always high at Amory as the Panthers look to return to the playoffs this upcoming season.

Despite what happened last season, the Panthers are ready to unleash in 2014.

“Inside our locker room, the expectations are very high,” Ashley said. “Outside of our locker room, I don’t know. We had 13 catastrophic injuries last year with six torn ACL’s and seven broken bones. If there’s a silver lining to that it is we have 26 kids coming back that have started a high school football game. As a result, we feel like that will make us better this fall.”

Amory will start the season at Independence before returning home to face Senatobia prior to the A-Game at Aberdeen.
