STEENS, Miss. (WCBI) – They are the artist formerly known as Immanuel, but they remain the Rams.

Columbus Christian Academy has the same look as last season, just a new name. The Rams came up just short of winning the MAIS District 2-A title last season, and that’s what is driving them in the off-season with what they have coming back.

“We have a lot of returning guys on the line and in the skill positions,” head coach Greg Watkins said. “We were basically a deflected pass away from winning district last year. That’s really stuck with the guys and we’re expecting to bring home a blue trophy.”

CCA eventually fell to Trinity Episcopal in the first round of the MAIS A Playoffs, but the Rams were in the postseason for the first time since 2010 last year.

Just getting to the postseason won’t be enough this time around as the Rams have unfinished business.

“I feel like we’re trying to prove people wrong,” senior K.C. Cunningham said. “I think we’re going to do big things this year. We went to the first round last year and played the best team. We saw what it takes and now we’re putting hard work in to make it this year.”

“We lost by just two points for the district title,” senior B.J. Shirley said. “That’s our first goal is to win district and hopefully go on to win state. We have a new school name and we feel like bigger and better things are coming for us.”

The Rams will start on the road at Delta Academy before coming home to host Winona Christian in the 2014 home opener.
