Okolona High School Chieftains
OKOLONA, Miss. (WCBI) – If you’re looking for a team to watch out for this season, look no further than Okolona.
Second year head coach Jack Clark returns an immense amount of talent from a 5-5 team a year ago where the Chiefs lost 3 of those games by 8 points or less.

With graduating just six seniors, the heavy junior class from a year ago is ready to step up.
“I think these seniors realize they opportunity they have,” coach Clark said. “We had a solid season last year and we were a play or two away from winning the division. They saw that and they’ve fed off that this off-season.”
It’s a strong team back for the Chieftains that includes senior quarterback Tyson Eddie who missed most of last year due to an injury.
Okolona made it to the postseason last season for the fifth consecutive year and with what’s returning on both sides of the ball they don’t have any plans of ruining that streak.
“I think we’re pretty balanced,” Clark said. “We return eight starters on offense and defense. I realize that everybody in our division will have to play defense to win so we put an emphasis on that but I feel like we have a pretty good balance on both sides of the ball.”
It will all come down to that division coach Clark mentioned.
Region 4-2A is arguably one of the toughest regions in the state and Okolona was just one play away from clinching the region title last season.
That’s been motivation to play and win against the best of the rest for the Chiefs.
“From top to bottom, every team had a winning record last year,” Clark said. “That doesn’t happen too often within the division. We could’ve finished first or last and every team in our division felt the same way.”
Okolona aspires to make it to the State Championship this season and with what’s returning for the Chieftains, there’s reason to believe they can channel their inner 1993 and take a shot at the Gold Ball in 2014.
